Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
Implemented in April of 2003, the federal government has passed legislation governing what health care providers can, and cannot, do with the protected health information (PHI) we collect from our patients. It also created the need for us to author, and provide to all patients, a Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP).
If you are interested in viewing more information about HIPAA, please view the New York State Department of Health's Web page.
