Youth Corps

The Nyack Community Ambulance Corps takes extraordinary pride in its Youth Corps Young adults, age 15 to 18 can join, and benefit from:
• Giving back to the community,
• Gaining valuable medical knowledge and
• Learning to perform with courtesy, discipline and professionalism.

Duties of a Nyack Community Ambulance Youth Corps member include:
• Riding on ambulance calls with an EMT and Driver
• Attending monthly meetings, and
• Participating in Corps training and activities.

We encourage our Youth Corps members to join the Senior Corps and achieve their EMT-B certification when they are 18 years old.

Requirements:
Before being able to ride on ambulance calls, each Youth Corps member is required to take the following courses, all provided by the Nyack EMS/ Ambulance Corps.
• Certified in CPR for Healthcare Providers,
• Bloodborne Pathogens awareness,
• Basic First Aid
• Youth Corps members are also made familiar with the equipment in the ambulance and trained in its use before riding along.

A Valuable Learning Experiences:
The safety of each member of the crew is the primary concern of the crew chief/EMT in charge, and under no circumstance will any Youth Corps member be placed in a potentially dangerous situation.

Being a member of Nyack Community Ambulance Corps will provide you with unforgettable experiences. You will learn and you will grow in confidence and competence. You’ll also build strong friendships with other members, participate in EMS-related social activities and county- and state-wide training, and will soon feel that you have become part of our family.

As a member, you will receive training from experienced professionals who will prepare you to administer prehospital care. Youth Corps Members who are cleared to ride on ambulance calls will receive training, uniforms and accessories at no cost.

You will also learn to take on leadership roles when you are ready: many members of the Senior Corps began as Youth Corps members, including Captains, Lieutenants, and Presidents, making important decisions every day for our organization.
